Over the summer, Alvin Kamara made headlines when he said the New Orleans Saints would have “beat the (expletive) out of [the Eagles] cause we was rolling” in an interview with Bleacher Report.
He was, of course, referring to the playoffs, during which his Saints were knocked off by the Minnesota Vikings thanks to the play that’s now known as the “Minnesota Miracle.”
Then, while the Saints went home to watch the rest of the NFL postseason from their couches, the Eagles went on to beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
On Thursday, a reporter approached Kamara in the Saints’ locker room to ask him about that comment, and he didn’t back down. However, he made it clear he meant no disrespect toward the Eagles. Rather, his comment was meant to be about his confidence in the Saints.
“I don’t care if we’re playing against The Monstars,” Kamara said, referencing the villainous cartoon basketball team from the 1996 movie “Space Jam,” per NOLA.com.
“Whatever team I’m on, I’m going to say we’re going to win. Period. I guarantee you it’s the same with any guy in this league that feels strongly about the team they’re on. It’s no disrespect, direct disrespect. I didn’t call them a name, a direct name. It’s just my team against your team. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.”
It’s easy to understand why Kamara is confident about his team’s chances against anyone these days. The Saints are absolutely rolling right now, having won eight straight games while taking out the likes of the Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens.
And last year, if the miracle had not occurred in Minnesota, it’s not hard to envision New Orleans could have taken out the Eagles en route to the Super Bowl. But that’s all ancient history now.
Kamara and Co. will have a shot to prove his point when the Saints host the Eagles on Sunday. It should be a barn burner, considering these two offenses, and we have no doubt that Kamara will have a lot to say about the outcome.
