USC starting third-string QB Jack Sears against Arizona State

With JT Daniels recovering from a concussion and backup quarterback Matt Fink out with broken ribs, USC is turning to third-string quarterback Jack Sears on Saturday against Arizona State.

Sears is a redshirt freshman who not yet thrown a pass for the Trojans.

He’s a four-star prospect out of San Clemente, California and was the fourth-ranked pro-style passing prospect in 2017.

Because Daniels and Fink have both been out with injuries, Sears has practiced with the USC first-string offense all week and is as prepared as he could possibly be in this situation.

The Trojans come into Saturday’s game with a 4-3 record, having lost last weekend to Utah following a three-game winning streak, and are first place in the Pac-12 South.
