Unrepentant Ty Montgomery hits back at anonymous teammates who blasted him

Ty Montgomery was the biggest goat of NFL Week 8 for his decision to take a kickoff return out of the end zone with less than two minutes remaining and his Green Bay Packers down by two points against the Los Angeles Rams.

The decision backfired in a big way, as Montgomery fumbled away his team’s chance to come back, with legendary late-game ninja Aaron Rodgers at the helm.

As the play unfolded on Sunday, Rodgers was visibly fuming on the sideline.

After the game, head coach Mike McCarthy said Montgomery had been told to take a knee if the ball crossed into the end zone. And in a tremendous deep look into the locker room afterward, NFL Network’s Michael Silver shared some pretty scathing quotes from Montgomery’s teammates.

Here’s one player’s take, as he suggests Montgomery had an ax to grind.

“They took him out (the previous drive) for a play and he slammed his helmet and threw a fit,” one Packers player said. “Then (before the kickoff) they told him to take a knee, and he ran it out anyway. You know what that was? That was him saying, ‘I’m gonna do me.’ It’s a f—— joke.

“I mean, what the f— are you doing? We’ve got Aaron Rodgers, the best I’ve ever seen, and you’re gonna take that risk? I mean, it’s ’12’! All you gotta do is give him the ball, and you know what’s gonna happen.”

On Monday, Montgomery shared his version of the events that unfolded Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles. In it, he said, “I’ve never been a guy to completely disobey what I’m being told.”

He also expressed anger and outrage that his teammates were not backing him up, but rather attacking him from the shadows.

This sure seems like it is not going to blow over soon. There’s clearly a ton of frustration within the locker room that one might concur has built up for quite some time.
