Tua Tagovailoa gave the Alabama Crimson Tide and college football fans everywhere a big scare on Saturday when he re-injured his sprained knee.
Thankfully, the injury isn’t expected to keep him off the practice field this week leading up to the team’s road game against Tennessee.
Head coach Nick Saban, who said Tagovailoa could have played on Saturday after aggravating the injury, spoke about what the team expects out of the quarterback this week.
“Tua hasn’t missed a day of practice,” Saban said via 247Sports. “He could’ve gone back in the game, like I said (Saturday). He’s going to practice today. Probably better this week than he was last week, so we’re going to see how he does in practice and continue to evaluate him.”
This is obviously the best-case scenario for Tagovailoa and the Crimson Tide. He’s been one of the most exciting players we’ve seen in college football for some time and is still the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in 2018, despite not playing in the fourth quarter once this year.
Before exiting Saturday’s game, Tagovailoa had completed 12-of-22 passes for 265 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. On the season, he’s completed 71.5 percent of his passes for 1,760 yards with 21 touchdowns and no interceptions. Tagovailoa has also added another 117 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
