NFL offenses putting up record numbers in first quarter

The 2018 NFL season has delivered its share of thrills and excitement so far throughout four weeks of games. What this first quarter of the season has also produced are some amazing numbers that are without precedent.

Just take a look here as 2018 has topped the 2012, 2013 and 2015 seasons in points, touchdowns thrown and total touchdowns scored, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Wow! Now that these numbers have been documented, let’s take a look at a few teams and players highly responsible for this production.

In looking at points scored, the Kansas City Chiefs top the charts and are averaging 36.3 points per game. The Los Angeles Rams hold second place with 35 points and the New Orleans Saints are a close third with 34.3 points on average per contest.

As for passing touchdowns, Kansas City’s very own Patrick Mahomes has thrown for a phenomenal 14 touchdowns in four games. This would include zero interceptions. The only other starting quarterback with zero interceptions is Drew Brees.

When it comes to which players have scored the most touchdowns throughout the first quarter, Rams running back Todd Gurley, Saints running back Alvin Kamara and Atlanta Falcons rookie wideout Calvin Ridley all have six scores on the books.

It is no wonder anyone who owns these players or guys from the top-scoring teams in fantasy football leagues are thrilled to pieces at this point in the season.
