Javier Baez: Opposing teams ‘know we’re the best’

The Chicago Cubs are facing elimination in Tuesday night’s National League Wild Card Game. But that’s not stopping Javier Baez from being confident, very confident.

“We’ve got to go out there and compete,” Baez said H/T Cubs Talk. “If we do that, there’s no team that can beat us. They know that. That’s why they run their mouth a lot. They know we’re the best.”

Baez declined to state who was doing the talking, noting “It’s around us. But if we pay attention, we get in their trap.”

Baez is not the first National League player to speak so brashly. Yasiel Puig has already predicted that his Los Angeles Dodgers will win the World Series.

The Dodgers and Cubs wouldn’t meet until the NLCS, which would be the third straight between the two teams. But if we do get that meeting, it’s safe to say that at least one member of each team will have plenty of confidence.
