Golden Tate fans trade rumors as deadline approaches

Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate is one of many players that’s been bandied about as a trade possibility heading into the deadline Tuesday afternoon.

A pending free agent, it’s unlikely that Tate will return to the Lions next season. That makes it possible the team will look to get something for him ahead of the deadline.

Tate himself decided to take to Twitter to throw another match into the fire as it relates to said trade rumors on Tuesday. He did so with one simple tweet and without typing a single word.

This gives us another perspective heading into the deadline. Players are people, too. They know full well that they can be traded. While some might see them as nothing more than a piece of a box score or the latest highlight reel, their lives can be uprooted in the matter of minutes.

For Tate, that could include being traded to the New England Patriots or another contending team. It could also include remaining with the Lions beyond Tuesday’s deadline.

The 30-year-old receiver has put up 44 receptions for 517 yards and three touchdowns this season. He’s also coming off two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and has tallied 90-plus receptions in each of the past four seasons.
