Chad Johnson’s son commits to Arizona State

Chad Johnson

During his playing days in the NFL, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson was among the most boisterous and successful pass catchers in the league.

A six-time Pro Bowler, Johnson racked up seven 1,000-plus receiving yards during a career that was largely defined by a 10-year tenure with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Herm Edwards and Arizona State is hoping the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Johnson’s son, Chad Johnson Jr., a four-star wide receiver recruit from Southern California, announced on Monday that he has committed to the Sun Devils’ football program.

Having starred at Venice High School, the 2020 prospect received offers from both Florida Atlantic and Oregon State prior to deciding on Arizona State. He had also been recruited by Stanford and USC.

It remains to be seen whether Edwards’ experience as a head coach in the NFL played a role in the receiver’s decision-making process. Though, it’s important to note that the older Johnson and Edwards never crossed paths in the league. Take that for what it’s worth.
