Broncos reportedly release QB Chad Kelly

Young quarterback Chad Kelly went from possibly starting for the Denver Broncos to being released within the matter of days.

A seventh-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Kelly was arrested and charged with first degree criminal trespassing Tuesday morning. The police report alleges that Kelly was inside an unknown home without consent and was chased from the house by its occupant. Kelly was later arrested by authorities who arrived at the scene.

Following the incident, Broncos general manager John Elway expressed outrage at his young quarterback. And now, the team has reportedly released Kelly.

Considered a potential early-round talent, Kelly became Mr. Irrelevant when Denver made him the 253rd overall pick in last year’s draft.

This came after multiple off-field incidents in college, one of which led to Kelly being kicked off the Clemson football team prior to transferring to Mississippi. It’s obvious the Broncos weren’t willing to work through his latest issues with him.

The team will now almost assuredly be in the market for a veteran quarterback over the next couple days. As for Kelly, his football career might be over.
