Steelers reportedly ‘guessing’ that Le’Veon Bell will sign on Saturday

Pittsburgh Steelers holdout running back Le’Veon Bell will not be on the field when his team takes on the Cleveland Browns in their season opener on Sunday. That’s already well known.

Still away from the squad due to a lengthy contract stalemate, Bell has yet to sign his franchise tag tender. It has some wondering whether the star running back will report at any point within the first two months of the season. It also has Bell’s teammates upset over the running back’s antics.

According to this report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, those within the Steelers’ organization are guessing that Bell will sign his tender and report to camp on Saturday.

This would allow the All-Pro to collect his $800,000 Week 1 check while preparing himself to play the following weekend.

Though, this seems like a “your guess is as good as mine” thing. No one from Bell’s camp has indicated he’ll report any time soon. The basic premise of this could be a tweet from earlier in the year in which Bell noted he would be on hand for Week 1.

Adding to the questionable nature of this report, previous suggestions this week noted that Bell would report on Wednesday. That did not happen.

Either way, it’s a major storyline. With Bell in the mix, Pittsburgh is a legit Super Bowl contender. With him holding out or potentially traded, the team’s Lombardi aspirations take a major hit.
