Report: Trevor Story has potential UCL damage in right elbow

After exiting Monday’s game with elbow soreness, Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story may potentially be dealing with UCL damage in his right elbow.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Story’s exact diagnosis is not yet known but there appears to be fear he is dealing with some UCL damage.

If there is UCL damage, the extent of it is still not known. A minor UCL strain could mean Story takes the rehabilitation route and avoids Tommy John surgery. However, extensive damage to the UCL would likely lead to a recommendation for him to undergo TJS.

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager underwent TJS in April and was ruled out for the remainder of the 2018 season.

The timetable for Story’s absence won’t be known until there is an official diagnosis, but Rosenthal’s report is concerning.

Story has been phenomenal this season with 33 home runs, 26 stolen bases and an .893 OPS in 149 games. The Rockies sit just 1/2 a game back of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West, so losing Story would be a massive blow.
