With their first preseason game set to tip off here in a couple weeks, the Phoenix Suns might be without star guard Devin Booker for an extended period of time.

John Gambadoro of 98.7 Arizona Sports in Phoenix is reporting that the 21-year-old guard will undergo hand surgery Monday and is out indefinitely.

It’s the same hand that bothered Booker at times last season when he missed 28 games to injury. Having just been handed a lucrative long-term extension, this threatens to impact Booker well into the 2018-19 regular season.

For a Suns team looking to mesh all of its young pieces together, this most definitely isn’t good news.

The No. 13 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Booker averaged a career high 24.9 points to go with 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists while shooting at a 38 percent mark from distance last season.
