We’ve been calling Ryan Fitzpatrick “FitzMagic” for years now, and his recent explosion of touchdown passes for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has brought the moniker back to life in a big way the past couple of weekends.
So, it’s not surprising to hear that a trademark for “FitzMagic” was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office last week.
Only, Ryan Fitzpatrick is not the player behind the trademark. Another NFL player who has been going by the same nickname since high school — Miami Dolphins rookie cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick of the Miami Dolphins — has taken initiative to secure it.
According to ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe, the trademark was filed with the intent of using “FitzMagic” to sell merchandise and apparel.
This is a very savvy preemptive move by Fitzpatrick and his representatives. Given the overwhelming popularity of Ryan Fitzpatrick right now, someone was bound to try and make a fortune off “FitzMagic” apparel.
We’re just surprised it wasn’t the Harvard grad.
