Josh McDaniels praises Josh Gordon for ‘ability to pick up our system’

Learning the system that Josh McDaniels runs and Tom Brady executes for the New England Patriots isn’t easy, but new addition Josh Gordon is apparently doing just fine so far.

In a conference call with local reporters on Monday following the team’s ugly loss Sunday night in Detroit, McDaniels gave Gordon some praise for demonstrating “an ability to pick up our system.”

“I think he’s learning. Look, it’s not easy to come in the middle of the week and try to pick everything up immediately,” McDaniels said. “Guys come from different systems, but he’s doing a really good job of working hard at that, trying to get himself caught up so that he knows what to do when he’s out there and can do it at a dependable level. I think he’s really doing a really good job of that.”

McDaniels did say he’s not yet sure what role Gordon will have in his offense, or when he’ll be ready to take the field on game days.

Based on what we saw from New England’s offense on Sunday night against Detroit, it’s clear the team needs Gordon’s playmaking ability in the worst possible way.

It’s going to be fascinating to see if/how he does fit in with Tom Brady and Co. Many before him have come in having experienced great success elsewhere only to fail at this endeavor.
