Did Titans WR Rishard Matthews just announce his release on IG?

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Rishard Matthews has not been heavily involved in the team’s offense through the first three games. The veteran has caught just 3-of-6 passes for 11 yards during that span.

This is a dramatic change for a receiver that combined to post 118 catches for 1,740 yards and 13 touchdowns in his first two seasons in Nashville.

We’re not too sure what’s happening behind the scenes here. What we do know is that Matthews posted a cryptic message to his Instagram account on Wednesday.

“When Daddy’s home for good,” Matthews wrote. “That is unless someone Calls him to get off the coach.”

Is this the receiver’s way of announcing he’s been released by the Titans? If so, it ends what seemed to be a tremendous marriage between the two. Matthews was not at practice with the Titans on Wednesday for personal reasons. That could have been a prelude to a pending roster move.

Either way, this is just some weird stuff right here.

Update: Matthews confirmed that he has in fact asked for his release. “It’s time to move on,” he told A-to-Z Sports via text message on Wednesday.
