WATCH: Baker Mayfield continues to look great in camp

It might not be enough to earn the starting job, but Cleveland Browns rookie No. 1 pick Baker Mayfield has not missed a beat over the first week or so of his initial NFL training camp.

As the Browns’ defense continues to show well in Berea, Mayfield himself has strung together multiple stellar practice sessions in a row to put some pressure on fellow quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

Here, we see the reigning Heisman winner connect with Rashard Higgins for a touchdown on a third down in an 11-on-11 session.

The ball placement between multiple defenders down the field was nothing short of perfect from Mayfield.

This is just the continuation of what has been a stellar week of practice for the rookie.

“Baker Mayfield has been everything I thought a quarterback should be for our organization thus far,” head coach Hue Jackson said earlier in the week. “He is doing the things that we want him to do, the way we want him to do it and he is exceeding those things because he is putting in the time. He does not have a pride or (arrogance) any kind of way.”

There’s certainly evidence that the Browns’ two-plus decades of futility at the quarterback position will soon come to an end.

It’s a good position for the Browns to be in. Following a winless 2017 campaign, this long downtrodden franchise has two capable quarterbacks. While Taylor might hold down the fort short term, early indications are that Mayfield is indeed the long-term future under center.
