Report: Browns expected to look into Khalil Mack trade

Khalil Mack

The Cleveland Browns are reportedly going to look into what it might take to pull off a trade with the Oakland Raiders for Khalil Mack.

Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com cited a league source on this story, just hours after head coach Hue Jackson said the team could potentially look to make that kind of splash.

“Oh, like a splash or something like that?” Jackson said in regards to a general question about adding big-name players in the next few days.  “It’d be hard for us to do, but nothing’s out of the question. Nothing’s off the table. I think we’ll definitely look at everything, and if we think it fits for our organization and football team, we’ll certainly do it.”

This comes just hours after another report that the Raiders have absolutely “no interest” in trading Mack away and expect him to play in Oakland this year, with or without a new deal.

That being said, the contract that Aaron Donald signed with the Los Angeles Rams puts a huge question mark on all this for Oakland. Donald’s new deal is now the benchmark for Mack, and the Raiders aren’t in great shape cap wise to make such a deal.

The Browns have spent a lot of money this past year but still have enough cap space to make Mack a very rich man if he were to come to Cleveland in a trade. There are other teams that have called Oakland as well, and we have some idea about what the Raiders might be looking for if they did indeed move their star.

The season starts in less than two weeks. Mack isn’t anywhere close to showing up for work in Oakland. Get your popcorn ready, because we could be on the cusp of witnessing quite a show.
