Courtney Smith’s lawyer: Ohio State has not contacted her

Ohio State is conducting an investigation into how Urban Meyer handled allegations of domestic violence by former assistant Zach Smith, and Courtney Smith is prepared to cooperate should she be contacted.

Her lawyer Julia Leveridge said in a statement (h/t Kyle Rowland, Toledo Blade) that Smith is “cautiously optimistic” Ohio State’s inquiry will determine if proper reporting protocol was followed.

The statement was also intended to “set the record straight” about “misinformation that has been circulating.”

According to Leveridge, Smith has neither been paid for any media interviews nor been charged with operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI).

Smith also recently said nobody from Ohio State contacted her following the 2015 incidents. Her ex-husband Zach, the former assistant coach, has said he never hit Smith, though it’s important to remember domestic violence is not limited to striking.

Meyer is currently on paid administrative leave while the university conducts the investigation.
