Chiefs release former leading rusher Charcandrick West

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif

Before Kareem Hunt was doing his thing in Kansas City, the Chiefs relied on a lesser-known Charcandrick West to provide balance on offense. An undrafted free agent out of Abilene back in 2014, West led the team with 634 rushing yards back in 2015.

West is no longer a member of the team. Kansas City announced on Wednesday that it has released the former feel-good story.

The running back has been sidelined most of the summer while dealing with a concussion. He was also pretty much buried on the depth chart last season, putting up just 72 yards on 18 attempts.

In addition to boasting one of the best young running backs in the NFL, the Chiefs also have both Spencer Ware and Damien Williams on the roster. There just wasn’t any room for West. The move saves Kansas City $1.7 million against the cap.
