Mavericks reportedly re-sign G Yogi Ferrell

The Dallas Mavericks may already have their starting five etched in stone after what was an extremely successful summer for the team.

Having added DeAndre Jordan at center and rookie No. 3 pick Luka Doncic in the draft, Dallas looks to have a core that can compete for a playoff spot next season.

Add in the fact that the team has reportedly re-signed young guard Yogi Ferrell on a two-year contract, and that’s magnified even further.

Ferrell, 25, has been some sort of a revelation since coming over from the Brooklyn Nets midway through the 2016-17 campaign. Last season saw him average 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting at a 37 percent clip from distance.

As noted above, the former Indiana star will begin the 2018-19 season as Doncic’s primary backup at the two-guard position. That will give Dallas two offensive-minded perimeter players to team up with 2017-18 Rookie of the Year candidate Dennis Smith Jr. in the backcourt.
