A Week 1 showdown between the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars will feature a great head-to-head battle between Giants’ receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. and Jaguars’ corner, Jalen Ramsey.
On Tuesday, Jacksonville’s outspoken defensive back took a little bit of time to hype the matchup.
“Let’s get this out the way right now. [Odell Beckham] is a good receiver,” Ramsey said on Tuesday, per NFL.com’s Austin Knoblauch. “We all know that. But you all know me at the same time. Yeah, he’s good, but I’m good, too. If you want to say he’s the best at his position, I’m the best at my position, so we are going to go at it. We are going to give the people a show the first game of the season.”
This matchup sure has a great deal of promise to it.
Injuries restricted Beckham to only four games in 2017. But in his first three seasons, he made three Pro Bowls and was named Second-Team All-Pro twice. Ramsey, meanwhile, is entering his third year. He made the Pro Bowl and earned First-Team All-Pro honors in 2017. In addition to their skills, both Beckham and Ramsey seem to embrace these individual matchups against other stars.
Ramsey knows that Beckham will have his moments against him. But he also made it clear that in the end, he plans on coming out on top.
“He is going to have some wins, I am going to have some wins,” Ramsey said, per Knoblauch. “I just plan on having more wins. That is the plan I am going to go in there with. I am going to work my ass off to get to that point to, like I just said, not let anybody down. I am sure he is doing that on the other side, too. … That is what you all asked for as fans of the game, as [fans of] the NFL, everybody. That is what you all asked for. We are going to give it to you, for sure. I know I am.”
This will be the first regular season meeting between the two. We hope it’s good and we hope it’s one that we see on many more occasions through the careers of each man.
