Eli Manning: Sterling Shepard ‘primed for a big year’

The New York Giants are looking to improve immensely from their terrible 3-13, 2017 campaign. Much of this starts with quarterback Eli Manning and his offense scoring more than the 15.4 points they averaged last year per game.

And speaking of the Giants offense, Manning had some really promising things to say about third-year wide receiver Sterling Shepard.

“I thought Sterling had a great camp during the spring,” Manning said, per Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com. “He’s understanding the coverages, understanding the route combinations, he understands zone and man, and how to make little moves to get open against different techniques.”

“I think he’s primed for a big year. And I’ve been really impressed by his work ethic.”

Shepard was just one of the Giants players who missed time due to injury in 2017. He played in 11 games, but his yards averaged per contest improved from 42.7 in his rookie year to 66.5 last season.

Now, it sounds as if Shepard is on course to continue upping his level of performance, according to Manning.

He will line up opposite of wideout Odell Beckham Jr., who the Giants lost in Week 4 to an ankle injury. On top of both receivers being healthy and back in the game, the addition of star running back Saquon Barkley is a huge plus.

Provided all key contributors remain upright, the Giants offense should be in much better shape this season. At least fans can only hope.
