Cubs place Kris Bryant on disabled list

After holding out hope a few days of rest would do the trick, the Chicago Cubs have placed third baseman Kris Bryant on the disabled list with left shoulder inflammation.

The 26-year-old was first held out of the lineup on Tuesday with soreness in his shoulder then was unable to play the following day. After talking it over with doctors, the team opted to take the cautious route and place him on the 10-day disabled list.

It marks the second time this season where the left shoulder has sidelined Bryant. He was previously on the disabled list from June 23-July 10 with the same inflammation in his left shoulder.

Given this is now a recurring issue for the All-Star, he could be unavailable for an extended period of time. While he’s only hit 11 home runs this season, Bryant’s .854 OPS and .380 OBP was crucial in Chicago’s lineup.

Chicago will be hoping infielder Javier Baez, who is out for Thursday’s games with a knee injury, can return to the lineup soon and partially atone for Bryant’s absence.
