Chargers still talking with Antonio Gates about playing in 2018

Ever since Hunter Henry was lost for the season with a torn ACL this spring, the obvious question on everyone’s mind is whether Antonio Gates would come back and play for the Los Angeles Chargers.

On Thursday, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco told reporters that the team is still engaged in “ongoing talks” with Gates’ representation, per Eric Williams of ESPN. However, the two sides have yet to strike a deal.

“I’ve got nothing new for you, but if we ever do anything I’ll let you guys know,” Telesco said, noting he still believes Gates can be effective in the team’s offense.

Last season, Gates’ 15th in the league, he tallied 30 catches for 316 yards and three touchdowns while taking a back seat to Henry, who came on strong.
