Cardinals GM releases statement after DUI arrest

Cardinals general manager Steve Keim

The Arizona Cardinals are dealing with some big internal matters as the team prepares for the 2018 NFL season.

General manager Steve Keim was arrested on the Fourth of July in Chandler, AZ. for a DUI after being pulled over by an officer. There’s not much more on the story, but KTAR in Arizona has the scoop.

Immediately after the arrest became public record, Keim and the Cardinals released separate statements.

“I truly regret my incredibly poor judgment and inexcusable actions. Everyone associated with the NFL and its teams is held to a high standard of behavior and I obviously failed to meet that,” the general manager said. “I sincerely apologize to our organization and its fans as well as to my family. I accept full responsibility for my actions and hold myself completely accountable.”

Meanwhile, the Cardinals’ statement was more generic.

“We are aware of the incident on Wednesday involving Steve Keim. He fully recognizes the seriousness of the situation and that this type of behavior is unacceptable and inexcusable,” the statement said.

Keim joined the Cardinals as a scout in 1999 before being promoted to general manager in 2013. Like players and coaches, Keim faces suspension under the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
