Stephen Strasburg gets shelled, leaves game with apparent injury

On the same day that Los Angeles Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani went on the disabled list with an injury, those within the Washington Nationals organization have to be holding their breath.

Ace pitcher Stephen Strasburg exited Friday’s game against the San Francisco Giants after yielding three runs on five hits in just two innings. The scene at Nationals Park in D.C. was not terribly uplifting as 29-year-old three-time All-Star immediately headed to the clubhouse with the team’s trainer.

Those on hand indicate that Strasburg continued to clutch for his throwing shoulder throughout his brief start.

The right-handed pitcher left his previous start earlier this week with a cramp in his other arm. Obviously, these two things are unlikely to be related.

Thus far on the season, Strasburg is pitching to a 6-5 record with a 3.20 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.

We’ll obviously have updates on this situation as more information comes out from the nation’s capital.
