Kevin Love knows trade rumors are coming this summer

The Cleveland Cavaliers find themselves in a 0-3 series hole in the NBA Finals against the defending champion Golden State Warriors.

Whether this series lasts one more games or extends long enough for a trip back to Oakland, the 2017-18 NBA season will soon give in to free agency and trade rumors this summer.

With pretty much everything up in the air relating to his Cavaliers, Kevin Love is well aware that trade rumors will be coming fast and furious here soon.

“It’s probably going to come up,” Love said, via Amico Hoops. “It always does. You know, it’s also good to be wanted but at the same time, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens. We just don’t know.

A lot of what happens in Cleveland will depend heavily on LeBron James’ free agency decision. Should he decide to return to the Cavaliers, the four-time defending Eastern Conference champs will look for roster reinforcements to once again contend for a title. If not, a lengthy rebuild could be on the horizon. Both possibilities could include Love being traded.

For Love, the behind-the-scenes dynamics will also play a role in what happens to him once the calendar hits July.

“There’s been so much overhaul and so many things that have happened this year, particularly with our team that you just don’t know when July comes and free agency hits,” Love continued.

A five-time All-Star, the 29-year-old Love averaged 17.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game during the regular season. He’s averaging 21 points and 12 boards thus far in the Finals.

Love is also set to count nearly $50 million against the cap over the next two seasons, making him a potential salary cap filler should Cleveland look to team James up with another star or go into complete rebuild mode.
