Gary Sanchez expected to miss 3-4 weeks with ‘Grade 1’ groin strain

The New York Yankees placed catcher Gary Sanchez on the 10-day DL Monday, but the team expects him to miss a lot more time than that.

A couple hours after the news broke, manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Sanchez was diagnosed with a “Grade 1” groin strain, per Cole Harvey of ESPN, and “believes that’ll take about 3-4 weeks before the catcher rejoins the Yankees.”

Sanchez injured his groin trying to beat out a double play in the 10th inning Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

It’s been a very frustrating year for Sanchez personally, as he’s struggled at the plate. In 63 games, he’s managed just 44 hits on 231 at-bats, earning a .190 average with 14 home runs and just 41 RBI.
