Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano will lose more than just 80 games after testing positive for a banned substance. Cano will not only be ineligible for the 2018 All-Star Game and postseason, but he’ll also lose the money that he was set to make in that stretch. In his case, that’s a hefty chunk of change.
The 80-game suspension is without pay, meaning Cano will miss out on nearly half of the $24 million that he was owed for the 2018 season.

If history is any indicator, this will also significantly hamper (if not completely wipe out) his eventual Hall of Fame chances.
Cano has released a statement claiming that what he took was not a PED and that he did not cheat. But even if that’s proven true and the Hall of Fame voters are willing to overlook this when the time comes, this will certainly go down as a costly positive test for the Seattle second baseman.
