Back in mid February, the future Kentucky Derby winner Justify was a relatively unknown name, and the horse was in no way a favorite to win. That’s how one person managed to turn a $500 bet into $150,000.

As Bill Krackomberger of Gaming Today tells it, the person who laid down the $500 bet heard someone else say, “Bob Baffert (trainer) thinks he has a monster of a horse and will point him toward the Kentucky Derby if everything goes correctly.”
This was back in the second week of February, and a few days later, the ticket had been purchased.
