Sean McVay optimistic about Rams doing long-term deal with Aaron Donald

Aaron Donald is one of the NFL stars next in line for a huge payday

The Los Angeles Rams have been extremely busy this offseason wheeling and dealing. But, one major deal the Rams need to tie up is signing defensive tackle Aaron Donald to an extension.

That said, head coach Sean McVay is optimistic about this happening. The two parties are communicating via text, and the exchange appears to be positive.

Like last year, Donald has been a holdout of the Rams offseason workouts. The three-time All-Pro is due a lucrative extension after recording 204 combined tackles and 39 sacks during his four seasons with the Rams.

Without a new contract in place, Donald is on course to earn only $6.89 million in his final year of his rookie deal. To afford a new deal for Donaldson, the Rams reportedly budgeted for his long-term contract to get done prior to the start of the 2018 season.

The fact that both Donaldson and the Rams are having amicable communications is definitely a step in the right direction.
