Report: Stephen Curry working to host PGA Tour event

Stephen Curry is a noted golf enthusiast. He even played in a Web.com Tour event in 2017. Now, the Golden State Warriors star is reportedly looking to host a PGA Tour event in 2019.

“ESPN has learned that Curry’s representatives at Octagon are working with the PGA Tour to finalize a deal that allows the agency to work with the Tour to sell marketing and sponsorship deals to a tournament that will be played in the fall of 2019,” ESPN’s Darren Rovell said. “Sources told ESPN that calls were being made to prospective sponsors of the event.”

There was no announcement as to where the event would be played.

Northern California would be a natural fit. Aside from the AT&T Pro-Am in Monterey, the only Northern California event on the Tour calendar is also held in the fall.

The PGA Tour frequently looks to keep events consecutive events within relatively close geographic proximity of each other, making the travel aspect easier. Of course, Curry also has strong ties in North Carolina, which, like the Bay Area, does not lack for top-tier golf courses.

The PGA Tour has made it known that it would love to have Curry host an event.

“There’s no doubt Stephen Curry brings a young, new, diverse audience to the PGA Tour through his passion for this great game and support for the community,” PGA Tour spokeswoman Laura Neal, per Rovell. “We’re excited about the prospect of partnering with an iconic athlete of his caliber in the future.”

More will likely come out after the end of Curry’s basketball season.
