Report: Rangers pondering trade for Matt Harvey

The New York Mets would be thrilled to trade pitcher Matt Harvey, who’s totally imploded this season, and they might just have a willing partner in the Texas Rangers.

Harvey was designated for assignment and refused to play in the minors, but the Rangers are reportedly mildly interested in making a deal for the former ace. Jon Morosi of MLB.com has the scoop here.

“…the Rangers have mild trade interest in Harvey, sources told MLB.com on Monday, at the outset of a pivotal week in the right-hander’s career. The club has not confirmed an interest in acquiring the right-hander.”

Morosi notes that one of the reasons Texas could be looking into trading for Harvey is that assistant pitching coach, Dan Warthen, was the Mets’ pitching coach through Harvey’s first eight years in New York.

The other reason, of course, is that the Rangers, quite simply, have a desperate need for pitching help.
