Raiders sign former Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson

Derrick Johnson is staying in the AFC West. The former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker has signed with the Oakland Raiders and will face his old team twice a year.

Oakland announced the signing on Monday, noting that defensive back Darius Hillary had been waived in a corresponding roster move.

It remains to be seen how much Johnson, 35, has left in the tank. Over the course of his 13-year career, all spent with Kansas City, he’s been one of the NFL’s top linebackers. However, the Chiefs made a decision to get younger on defense this offseason, and Johnson was one of the veterans to feel the sting of that.

Needless to say, signing with Oakland had a lot to do with getting some revenge, and Johnson will have a chip on his shoulder for sure.

To date, Johnson has played in 182 games with 169 starts and totaled 1,262 tackles (993 solo), 27.5 sacks, 23 forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries, 14 interceptions and 77 passes defensed.
