Former Colts, Saints TE Coby Fleener still not cleared from concussion suffered in November

Saints tight end Coby Fleener

It’s been nearly half a year since Coby Fleener suffered a concussion in Week 12 of the 2017 season as a member of the New Orleans Saints, which ended his season.

Fleener was released by the New Orleans Saints recently. Head coach Sean Payton revealed that the tight end is “still working through the process of getting cleared and he’s still working through being without symptoms,” in an interview featured on the team’s website.

It was the fifth concussion of Fleener’s career, and it’s pretty alarming that he is still dealing with symptoms six months after the fact. This is something we saw play out a while back with former Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle, Michael Oher as well.

Fleener spent four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before landing in New Orleans as a free agent in 2016. Over the course of his six-year career, the former second-round pick out of Stanford has caught 255 passes for 3,080 yards and 22 touchdowns.

At this point, the best course of action for Fleener might be to consider hanging up the cleats for good. We wish him well as he continues to recover.
