Chris Long issues scorching statement ripping NFL anthem rule

The NFL owners passed a new rule concerning the national anthem on Wednesday morning, which says that players can choose not to be on the field during the anthem but those that are on the field must stand, among other things.

This new rule generated all sorts of headlines nationally as people on both sides of the issue issued their thoughts, including DeMaurice Smith, the head of the NFLPA, who blasted it.

Now one of the league’s elder statesmen, Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long, has spoken up with a scorching statement decrying the rule.

Clearly, there is a lot of passion behind this statement by Long, who is likely not alone among his peers in taking this view.
