Vikings re-sign CB Terence Newman, soon to be 40

The Minnesota Vikings have brought back veteran cornerback Terence Newman, soon to be 40 years of age, for yet another season.

The team announced the move on Monday afternoon, with safety Harrison Smith noting just how valuable an asset Newman is to the team.

“Terence would be an example of a guy now,” Smith said. “He’s a peer, but he’s also been there, done that. He shows us things every week.”

Last season, Newman appeared in all 16 regular season games for Minnesota, starting seven while picking off one pass and breaking up seven more. Throughout his 15-year career, he’s played for the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals and now the Vikings, nine of which have come under Mike Zimmer.

Newman continues to be a marvel, playing at such a high level in his late-30s. Like the fine wines he loves to imbibe, he just seems to get better with age.
