NFL, Amazon renew ‘Thursday Night Football’ relationship

The NFL and Amazon have reportedly renewed their Thursday Night Football relationship for two more seasons. According to Mark J. Burns of Sports Business Chronicle, the agreement will enable Amazon to stream 11 mid-week games in each of the next two seasons through its Prime service.

Given the prevalence of fans streaming games rather than watching on traditional platforms, this is no small thing.

In fact, Thursday Night Football ratings grew 17 percent last season over when Twitter streamed the nationally televised games back in 2016. In total, 750 million minutes of football action was streamed on Prime last season.

Amazon paid $50 million to the NFL for the rights to stream games last season. It’s not yet known what the contract renewal will generate in terms of revenue for the league.
