Report: Giants could release Pro Bowl CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

We could potentially be looking at yet another veteran cornerback hitting the free agent market here soon. According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the New York Giants are asking Pro Bowler Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to take an extensive pay cut from the $6.5 million he’s due to make next season. The two sides are said to be far apart in terms of a number.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 31, started six of the 15 games in which he appeared last season. He recorded 48 tackles, defended one pass and had zero interceptions in what was the worst performance of the veteran’s career. DRC was also suspended one game by then Giants head coach Ben McAdoo.

The veteran is set to count $8.5 million against New York’s cap next season. In turn, the Giants can save $6.5 million against said cap by releasing him.
