Report: Dolphins’ Jarvis Landry officially signs franchise tender

We all knew this was coming. In order to force the Miami Dolphins’ hands, wide receiver Jarvis Landry was going to sign his franchise tag tender prior to the start of free agency this coming Wednesday.

He did just that on Thursday morning.

To be clear. Landry will not play with the Dolphins under his $15.9 million franchise tag number. The team is either going to have to rescind the tag or trade the star receiver. By signing the tag, Landry puts his Dolphins $18.5 million over the cap. They need to be at or under the $177.2 million cap by the start of the new league year on Wednesday.

There’s been widespread speculation that Miami has been looking to trade Landry. In fact, the team gave him permission to talk to other squads about a potential deal. By signing the tender now, there’s a chance that a trade could be coming here soon. At the very least, Landry has put his Dolphins in a less-than-ideal situation.
