Isaiah Thomas to undergo ‘minimally invasive’ surgery on hip

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Isaiah Thomas is going to be going under the knife for a “minimally invasive procedure” to “clean up” his hip joint, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday. The procedure is related to the hip injury that forced Thomas out of the playoffs last year.

Thomas left the Lakers earlier this week to seek a second opinion on his hip injury, and obviously now he has it.

It’s been a turbulent season for the former Boston Celtics star point guard. He was traded last summer to Cleveland, which ended up trading him soon after he was healthy enough to begin playing again this season.

In 32 games this season, he’s averaged 15.2 points, 4.8 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game.

At this time it’s unknown when Thomas might be healthy enough to resume basketball activities. We’ll know more following his procedure.
