Celtics’ Kyrie Irving to reportedly undergo knee surgery Sunday

It might now be full blown panic time in Boston. Having missed the past four games with knee soreness, Celtics MVP candidate Kyrie Irving will reportedly undergo surgery on said knee this coming Saturday.

Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports was the first to report the news.

Though, the NBA insider did qualify his report by noting that the procedure is minor and is meant to “alleviate irritation in his left knee.”

It remains to be seen if this will impact Irving’s availability for the playoffs. Irving had previously indicated he’s targeting an early April return. That timeline might be thrown off a bit here.

Boston currently finds itself at 48-23 on the season and as the second seed back east. It’s 4.5 games behind Toronto for the top spot and six games ahead of Cleveland for the No. 2 seed. This means the Celtics can play it safe with Irving in hopes that he’s 100 percent for the postseason.
