Row The Boat. That’s the mentality and catch phrase Minnesota football head coach P.J. Fleck brought with him last year when he came to the Golden Gophers from Kalamazoo, and now that is a central theme in the team’s new uniform, which the school unveiled on Tuesday.

Partnering with Nike, Minnesota unveiled its H.Y.P.R.R. ELITE series, which features an incredible array of potential combinations.

“Minnesota will have more than 100 possible uniform combinations next season, but will stay true to tradition. The Gophers introduced three new jerseys (Maroon, White and Anthracite), three helmets (Maroon, White and Gold) and four pairs of pants (Maroon, White, Gold and Anthracite) to choose from next season in addition to an ever-changing array of shoes, socks, facemasks and other accoutrements.”

Personally, I love the new uniforms, especially the design on the maroon helmet.

Fleck turned Western Michigan into a formidable program in the short time he was at the helm in Kalamazoo. Now he’s trying to do the same thing in the Big Ten with Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers had a rough go of it last year, going 5-7, but there’s reason for optimism. Hopefully for the program, these shiny new uniforms will have a chance to be featured in some big games in the years to come.
