Shaun White: Competing in 2020 Summer Games ‘would mean the world to me’

After stomping his final run to win gold in the men’s halfpipe competition in Pyeongchang during the 2018 Winter Olympics, Shaun White has his sights set on a different goal.

Back in 2016, the International Olympic Committee voted to include skateboarding as an Olympic sport, and it will debut during the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Not surprisingly, White would love to be a part of this inaugural event.

“It would mean the world to me to compete in skating,” White said, per Rick Maese of the Washington Post. “It’d be great.”

Clearly, there’s no issue with passion at this time for White, who recently admitted his heart wasn’t in it during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

Though Shaun White is primarily known as being one of the world’s best snowboarders, he’s no slouch on a skateboard. He’s a two-time Summer X Games gold medal winner for his work on the vert ramps and has also earned two silvers and a bronze.

No doubt, having White on board Team USA’s skateboarding team in 2020 would help bring some pomp and circumstance to the sport, which, like snowboarding, will likely become a huge boon for television ratings in the future.
