Mere days after designating All-Star outfielder Corey Dickerson for assignment, the Tampa Bay Rays have dealt the veteran to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for pitcher Daniel Hudson, minor league infielder Tristan Gray and cash considerations.

This continues what has been a major fire sale for the Rays. It also comes after their shocking decision to designate the 2017 All-Star for assignment earlier in the week.
Dickerson, 28, hit .282 with 27 homers, 62 RBI and 64 extra-base hits in Tampa last season.
In return, the Rays acquire a veteran pitcher in Daniel Hudson who has transitioned from being a starter to a reliever in recent seasons. He posted a 4.38 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 71 appearances for the Pirates last season. Meanwhile, Gray was a 13th-round pick of the Pirates last year. He’s a low-level minor leaguer who was nowhere to be found among the Pirates’ top prospects prior to Thursday’s trade.
