Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek on Joakim Noah: ‘We’ve moved on’

NBA Free agent, Joakim Noah

We’re now unlikely to ever see Joakim Noah in a New York Knicks uniform again. Away from the team for the past month after getting into an argument with head coach Jeff Hornacek, the free agent bust will soon be looking for employment elsewhere. Whether that comes this season remains to be seen. But Hornacek made clear on Tuesday that the Knicks have indeed move on from him.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that New York will buy the big man out. The team still owes him nearly $38 million after this season, and Noah himself would have to come to terms on a buyout. It simply means that he’s unlikely to play for the Knicks again.

Signed to a four-year, $72.6 million contract back in 2016, Noah has suited up a total of 46 games for the Knicks since. If he is indeed away from the team for the remainder of the contract, that means New York would have paid Noah $1.6 million per game. As of now, that number stands at just over $700,000 for every time Noah has taken to the court.
