Isaiah Thomas: ‘I got my powers back’ with Lakers

Isaiah Thomas struggled to find his All-Star level of execution with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he feels a move to the Los Angeles Lakers has revived his season.

According to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk, Thomas said the trade has provided a fresh start and returned his elite form.

“I wanted to bring something to the table. I felt like I got my powers back playing on this team.”

During his team debut, Thomas collected 22 points — his second-highest total of the campaign — and six assists. He connected on 7-of-12 shots, tying a season-high mark with four triples.

Though he committed six turnovers (and five fouls) in the loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Thomas adjusted well to the Lakers’ pace despite not having a deep understanding of the team’s sets. Learning the playbook will be a longer process than 48 hours.

Granted, as enticing as the move to Los Angeles is, Thomas also has a chance to rebuild his free-agency pitch. He’s headed for a raise this summer, and showing his elite offensive ability is critical to attracting an eight-figure payday.

Thomas says he’s regained those powers; now, they need to show up consistently.
