Giants GM doesn’t rule out trading No. 2 overall pick

New York Giants

The New York Giants have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but there’s a chance that pick could go to another team if the price is right.

Speaking to media Wednesday at the combine, new general manager Dave Gettleman made it clear the option to trade that pick is not off the table.

If the Giants to hold onto the pick, the team has an incredibly high standard for the type of player they’re looking for there.

Given the level of desperate need around the NFL for elite quarterbacks, it’s quite possible the Giants could walk away with a king’s ransom in draft capital by trading down.

All we have to do to see what type of haul they could receive is look back to last year when the San Francisco 49ers fleeced the Chicago Bears in a trade up from No. 3 to No. 2. Looking back one more year, the Philadelphia Eagles gave up the farm to move up from No. 8 to No. 2 in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

That said, the Giants have also said they aren’t opposed to drafting the quarterback of the future with that No. 2 pick. So, there’s quite a bit of ambiguity surrounding this position heading into the 2018 NFL Draft.
