Eagles’ Doug Pederson hints that team is open to trading Nick Foles

Nick Foles

From a mere afterthought and backup to a Super Bowl MVP, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles is a hot topic of conversation. With conversation being the key word here, head coach Doug Pederson said the team plans to talk to Foles about is future.

“Well, I think you’ve got to have that conversation,” Pederson said Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “Again, I’m a big believer you just don’t blindside a player like that, if that happens. I think you’ve got to have that open communication with them. We’ll see. We’ll see where it goes. [Executive vice president of football operations] Howie [Roseman] just mentioned we’d love to have everybody back, but we know the nature of the business. But, yeah, we’ll talk about it before or if and when that time comes.”

These comments would suggest that the team is possibly open to trading Foles. Philadelphia is in a good position to do so considering the change of events that took place after quarterback Carson Wentz was lost to injury for the season.

Foles currently has one year left on his contract with the Eagles. But because of his postseason accomplishments and his budget-friendly salary of only $7.6 million, other quarterback-needy teams will surely show interest. Though, trading Foles would leave the Eagles in a vulnerable spot at backup with Wentz not guaranteed to be 100 percent healthy by Week 1.

However things play out, it is considerate that Pederson and Co. plan to keep Foles in the loop of conversation.
