Colts reportedly unlikely to re-sign Frank Gore

Frank Gore

Frank Gore’s three-year tenure as a member of the Indianapolis Colts has likely come to an end. Set to become a free agent next month, Mike Chappell of a local CBS affiliate in Indianapolis reports that the team is unlikely to re-sign the future Hall of Fame back.

At 34 years old, it’s absolutely shocking what Gore continues to do on the gridiron. He’s coming off a 2017 campaign that saw him record north of 1,200 yards. It’s the 12th consecutive season that Gore has hit the 1,200-yard plateau. He now needs just 76 yards to pass Curtis Martin for fourth on the all-time NFL list.

While some may conclude that Gore will retire, he seems hellbent on continuing what has been an awe-inspiring career that started with the San Francisco 49ers all the way back in 2005. Chappell seems to think that Gore latching on with a contender is the end result here. And we couldn’t agree more. It would be great to see him finish his career with the possibility of earning that elusive Super Bowl title.

Pure conjecture here, but the New England Patriots could make some sense. Both Rex Burkhead and Dion Lewis are slated to become free agents, potentially setting into motion the need for New England to hit the free agent market for a replacement. Gore’s former 49ers team might also look at free agency to replace Carlos Hyde, who is also set to hit the open market next month.
